Project: Talon NPC update

Hey folks,

Had a bit of a strange week… but that aside I did manage to work on a few things. One project I am still not at liberty to show here on my site yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to show you all that some point soon.

As far as things I can show you:  Below is a test NPC for Project: Talon. While working on this I realized how long it had been since I had worked on a full human figure. You better believe that I am going to be doing that again in the near future. I learned a lot during the creation of this character… perhaps too much. *Leers at notes*

I wouldn’t call this done but I am happy enough with it to send it off to the rest of the team for testing.

Catch you next weekend.

Head Spinning.

I find myself feeling very busy as of late.

This seems both good and bad. On one hand I have been working on several projects and not feeling like I am stagnating. On the other hand my focus is split and I am not finishing things as soon as I would like. Thankfully I have my lists to keep me sane and on track… it’s just on a longer time line that I had originally planned.

Well, I’ve got three things this week. One is an update of the NPC for Project: Talon, still not quite done and is still missing his face but he’s shaping up pretty well and should be done soon.

The second is Raziel from the Legacy of Kain series. The model of Raziel is for a local video game themed art show that I intend to be a part of. I chose to work on Raziel because I was feeling inspired after completing the game Legacy of Kain: Defiance recently. (Didn’t grow up with PlayStation 2 so I am just getting to that era now. Very cool stuff!)

The third is some design/mockup work for a client to help rework a studio work space for a school.

Anyway,

Catch you next weekend!

Back from My Secret Laboratory

Hey, Hey!

So far one of the best parts of being a teachers aid is that I basically get free lessons on Maya.  I have found myself adjusting my work flow and I am picking up more and more as the class progresses. Speaking of that class, they’re doing an awesome job. It’s been fun watching them slowly dip their toe into the vast ocean that is 3d modeling and grow more  comfortable with it.

Now that aside, I’ve been reworking that NPC character along with experimenting with some UV layout, lighting and few other things that I’ve picked up recently. Below is an image of that progress. It isn’t perfect, but with practice comes finesse.

I'm still hammering out the details.

Catch you next weekend.

Bullet Proof Sweater Vest.

This week has been a good one, worked on few projects. Even made some real progress.. fancy that!

Below are some screen shots of a few tweeks Luke and Allen made to Project: Talon and an NPC that I am working on. The NPC is more or less a generic bad guy with place holder textures at the moment. So for now he looks a bit like a an extreme golfer wearing a bullet proof sweater vest… (writes down new game idea) His overall look will flesh out in time.

Along with that there are a few projects looming  on the horizon. (Some I am already working on.)

Catch you next weekend!

Phew!

Well this week just few by.

I have to say I am going to need to take some time to get used to my new schedule.  My first week being a teachers aid was a lot of fun. It was interesting being in a class situation and not being a student, leaping from computer to computer helping people learn Maya.  Hopefully the following weeks will be as fun.

As for my personal work… well I may need to take some time to balance things out in my schedule.

Below is a picture of some very basic art work for a “security guard” for Project: Talon.

Project: Talon update

Hey Folks,

Here is what’s up with Project: Talon.

We’ve taken all of the complete art assets and put them into the engine. We’ve got pick up objects, sprinting, basic shooting and teleport scripts thanks to Allen West. From here we’re going to having to continue to refine what we have and see what we can finesse out of the engine.

This is our first game, each of us has learned a lot about the process and how to work within a team. That alone has made this project worth while.  I am not sure whether it will become a completed project or simply be a launching off point for something better.

For now check out Project: Talon screenshots below.

Alleyway Update 2

I’ve started placing props into the alleyway environment I’ve been working on.

For now I am just placing them in Maya to get a sense how these objects will be placed and also to see if I need to adjust the overall look of the objects. This gives me some wiggle room to  literally tailor objects to fit in the space if need be before bringing them into the Unity engine.

Things still need a lot tweaking but I can see things coming together… I just need to keep pushing.

Below are some renders of the environment  I am currently working on for Project: Talon.

See you next weekend.

..hmm, that was the 64th post.

Alleyway Update.

Well I ended up just remaking the entire level space and I am glad I did.

Below here are some renders of the game space  now called the Alleyway. For now with out the props add, I should have those (most?) sorted out by next week.

Anyway,

Catch you folks next weekend.

Do, learn, redo

Hey Folks,

The alleyway section (“old town”) of our level is what I am currently cleaning up, adding details and in most cases redoing parts of.

The new methods I am employing have already saved me a great deal of work and cut down on the polycount significantly.   I’ve got plenty ahead of me but I’ll be able to push through it.

Here are some in progress renders of the alleyway.

See you next weekend.
